Happy 107th Birthday, Edward!

Today is Edward Cullen’s 107th birthday, and in celebration of that blessed fact, the Twilight Lexicon compiled a list of the 107 reasons why we love Edward. A link to the post is here, and if you look really closely at the PDF file of the list at #91, you might see a contribution from someone you recognize! :)

More Items on my FOR SALE Page

I added a few new things to my FOR SALE page on my sidebar (under the ABOUT ME heading), specifically some handmade needle cases made from fun fabrics.

I call them “needle cases,” but they have a variety of uses from a needle case to a sock-knitting case to a reusable gift bag–my most recent use as seen here:

BaddannaPocketView

The cases are made from 100% cotton fabric (prewashed and preshrunk), are approximately 8″ wide by 7″ high and are lined with the same fabric you see on their outsides. As you can see from the photo above, the cases are like one big pocket with a full sized fold down flap, so your knitting won’t fall out or get snagged on any fasteners.

Cullen Family Crest: Revealed

Today MTV revealed the Cullen Family Crest in its Twilight Tuesday feature, and here’s a link to the blog post. You’ll find a video snippet and pics of the crest as well.

There’s been a lot of speculation as to what the crest means, so here’s my compilation of symbols from this fantastic heraldry site:

Lion–Fierce Courage
In Ireland the Lion represented the ‘lion’ season, prior to the full arrival of Summer. The symbol can also represent a great Warrior or Chief.

Trefoil/Shamrock–Perpetuity, longevity
In Ireland the Shamrock was used by Saint Patrick to explain the Holy Trinity and thus has Christian significance.

Hand–Faith, sincerity, justice
In Ireland the open hand was often used as a means of communicating through the ancient language known as ‘Ogham’. The open hand may have also signified the sun.

Arrows, Arrow-Heads–Military readiness, affliction

(Personally I don’t see the arrow in the crest, but MTV says it’s there, so I guess I’ll take their word for it.)

Also, if you’re interested in the *real* Cullen family crest, you can find it here.

We miss you, Doug

Yesterday Mr. S-n-S’s brother passed away from lung problems caused by chemo and radiation.

Doug fought Hodgkins disease about 13 years ago, had many rounds of chemo, radiation and finally a bone marrow transplant. Needless to say, his body was fried within an inch of its life, and we were lucky to have him for as long as we did.

He touched many lives, as a father, principal, teacher, soccer dad and friend, and he will be sorely missed.

We love you, Doug!!

Ready-Made Knits FOR SALE

I have a few non-knitting friends who frequent my blog (hey, girls!!), and they’ve wondered if they could purchase baby socks, fingerless gloves and other knitted objects from me. So, rather than going through the hassle of opening an Etsy shop, I figured I’d just update this post with ready-made knitted stuff that’s available for purchase.

On all items I’ll accept a personal check or cash, and if you happen to need an item shipped somewhere (rather than personally delivered to you by yours truly), I’ll charge you what it costs me to ship the item to you.

Happy shopping! :)

More Construction at La Casa de Stitch-n-Snitch

The last few months have been filled with lots of home improvements at La Casa de Stitch-n-Snitch, and lately I’ve been feeling like I’m living in the midst of a construction zone. (I know someone else who can totally relate.) I can’t get to my yarn stash(es), stuff is piled *everywhere*, and I definitely can’t take two steps without leaving a trail of chipboard, a smear of caulk or stepping on a staple.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m really glad we have the opportunity to fix up our house; honestly, I never thought we’d have the opportunity to do half as many things as we’ve been able to do. It’s just that I don’t do well with upheaval, and when three quarters of my house is in a constant state of dishabilite, it’s hard to find a quiet (clean) place to take a breather.

Okay, rant over. :)

In the interest of full disclosure, there have been positive side effects of being the Demolition Mom. For one thing, now I know what’s under vinyl (say Ewwww with me), I’ve discovered that I’m actually quite good with a caulking gun and I haven’t had to deal with this craziness alone. Mr. Stitch-n-Snitch is handier than any of us thought, doing most of the bathroom all by himself. DV#1 has also been a never-ending source of enthusiastic free labor. :)

So, what’s on the agenda for today? How about turning this into a walkable set of steps again with new carpet?!

(No, we’re not laying our own carpet. The workmen should be here in about two hours, thank goodness!)

Stephenie’s site has been updated with specific info on her Breaking Dawn Tour.  Clicky here for venue/ticketing info!

J. K. Rowling Prequel Card Posted!

There’s been a lot of hullabaloo in the Harry Potter world recently because J. K. Rowling wrote up a card to be auctioned off for charity that contains a story about James Potter and Sirius Black. According to The Leaky Cauldron, Jo has said that the story takes place three years before Harry was born.

Anyway, yesterday Waterstone’s posted the complete text of the card online, and if you’re interested, you can find it here.

(NOTE: The link won’t take you directly to the Harry Potter card. Click on “Read our authors’ stories” and then “J. K. Rowling” (obviously).)

Breaking Dawn Mini-Tour!

This morning MTV announced a mini tour for Stephenie and Justin Furstenfeld of the band Blue October.  There will be four dates to celebrate the release of Breaking Dawn, and you can find more info here.

NYC is only a few hours from The FM’s place, so maybe I’ll be taking a mini trip during my vacation? :)
