My Opinion of The Host

I’ve had a few people ask for my opinion of Stephenie Meyer’s newest novel, so here it is:

First off, it’s very, very different from the books in the Twilight Saga, so don’t start reading with the expectation of learning more about the exploits of sexy vegetarian vampires.

The Host’s characters are compelling in their own ways, and as I read I grew attached to several of them, but most especially to Ian. I know Jared is *supposed* to be the male lead (and he always is–at least in Melanie’s mind), but the more I read about Ian, the more I thought that he was always a better man than Jared. Call me Ian’s #1 fan, I guess! :)

I don’t want to give any major plot threads away, but just know that I think Stephenie explores the motif of love in all of its varieties in this book at least as well as she does in the Twilight Saga. I think the bottom line is if you like sci-fi with a large side dish of good (clean) romance, this book is for you.

Also, the majority of the book takes place in the desert, and that’s been great medicine for my cravings for my old digs in Arizona. I miss you little house! :/

The Host: Finished!

I estimate it took me about 5.5 hours, and a well-spent 5.5 hours it was! :)
