Power Cuffs Wristwarmers
Needles: US 2.5 (3mm) dpns, set of 5 and one US 6 (4.0mm) needle for bind off, adjust needle size to get gauge
Gauge: 6 stitches/inch in k2, p2 rib
Notions: stitch marker, darning needle
Yarn: approximately 60 yards of dk-weight yarn (Sample was knit with hand-dyed Zara extra-fine merino yarn.)
Sizing: one size (stretches to approximately 8” finished circumference)
Special Stitches:
Left Twist (LT): Working behind first st on left needle, knit into the back of the second stitch, making sure not to drop off, then knit the first stitch letting both stitches drop off the needle
Right Twist (RT): K2tog making sure not to drop off, then knit the first stitch letting both stitches drop off of needle
LEFT POWER CUFF
With 2 dpns held together, cast on 52 stitches. Divide stitches with 13 on needle 1, 14 on needle 2, 12 on needle 3 and 13 on needle 4. Place marker to show beginning of round and join.
Knit first round as follows:
RIBBING PATTERN:
Needle 1: k2, p2, k2, p1, k2, p2, k2
Needle 2: p2, k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2
Needle 3: k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2
Needle 4: k2, p2, k2, p1, k2, p2, k2
Follow ribbing pattern as established above for rounds 2, 3 and 4.
For round 5, knit pattern as established above EXCEPT do a Left Twist on the 2 knit stitches before and after the p1 on needles 1 and 4 as follows:
CABLE ROUND:
Needle 1: k2, p2, LT, p1, LT, p2, k2
Needle 2: p2, k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2
Needle 3: k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2
Needle 4: k2, p2, LT, p1, LT, p2, k2
Now knit 4 rounds in the ribbing pattern and then knit 1 cable round. Repeat this process (the 4 ribbing rounds and then the 1 cable round) 3 additional times.
Knit 3 ribbing rounds, then remove marker and bind off stitches–binding off in knit on the knit stitches and in purl on the purl stitches–using the US6 needle. (Switching to this larger needle will help the bind off be stretchy enough to get the cuff over fingers and knuckles.)
Weave in yarn tails from cast on and bind off with darning needle.
RIGHT POWER CUFF
Follow directions as for the Left Cuff EXCEPT substitute Right Twist instead of Left Twist on the cable round.
