Leg: CO 40 sts over 2 dpns, divide sts over 4 needles and join round.
Knit 16 rounds of k2, p2 ribbing for straight top. For turned-down cuff, knit 32 rounds of k2, p2 ribbing.

Heel Flap: (Turning Row) Knit 10 sts in established k2, p2 rib pattern, turn, S1pwise, p19.
Row 1: *S1pwise, k1* across row
Row 2: S1pwise, p across row

Repeat these 2 rows 7 more times, for a total of 16 heel flap rows.

Turn Heel:
Row 1: S1pwise, k12, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 2: S1pwise, p7, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 3: S1pwise, k8, ssk, k1, turn.

Row 5: S1pwise, k10, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 6: S1pwise, p11, p2tog, p1, turn.

On a new dpn, knit across 7 sts so that you’re halfway across heel. All following rounds will begin halfway across the heel.

Gusset: On a new dpn, K7, pu11 on the heel flap with the crochet hook, knit the instep in the established k2, p2 pattern on their existing dpns (if you want to continue the ribbing pattern down the instep of the foot; otherwise just knit the instep in stockinette stitch), and on a new dpn, pu11 on the heel flap with the crochet hook, k7.

(Before you start the decreases, make sure there are 18 sts on the 1st dpn, 10 instep sts on the 2nd dpn, 10 instep sts on the 3rd dpn and 18 sts on the 4th dpn with new rounds beginning at the middle back of the heel. Adjust sts if necessary.)

Decreases: (Set-up Rounds) K14, k2tog, k2tog; knit instep in established k2, p2 rib pattern or in stockinette stitch, whichever is desired; ssk, ssk, k14. Knit next round straight (with no decreases).

Round 1: Knit to 3 sts before end of 1st dpn, then k2tog, k1. Knit instep sts in established k2, p2 rib pattern or in stockinette stitch, whichever is desired. K1, ssk at beginning of 4th dpn, then knit to the end.
Round 2: Knit round straight (with no decreases), continuing established k2, p2 rib pattern or stockinette stitch on instep.

Repeat these 2 rounds 2 more times, then do 1 additional decrease round (Round 1), for a total of 44 sts remaining (12 on the 1st dpn, 10 on the 2nd dpn, 10 on the 3rd dpn and 12 on the 4th dpn).

Foot: Knit 16 rounds straight (with no decreases), continuing established k2, p2 rib pattern or stockinette stitch on instep.

Wedge Toe: (Set-up Round) Adjust sts so that there are 11 on each needle. (Take 1 st off of 1st dpn and put it on 2nd dpn, and take 1 st off of 4th dpn and put it on 3rd dpn.)

Round 1: Knit to 3 sts before end of 1st dpn, then k2tog, k1. K1, ssk at beginning of 2nd dpn, then knit to end. (Do not carry the k2, p2 ribbing onto the toe. The toe should be in stockinette stitch.) Knit to 3 sts before end of 3rd dpn, then k2tog, k1. K1, ssk at beginning of 4th dpn, then knit to end.
Round 2: Knit round straight (with no decreases).

Repeat these 2 rounds 3 more times, then DO ONLY THE DECREASE ROUND (Round 1) 3 more times for a total of 16 sts remaining (4 on each needle).

Grafting: (Set-up Round) Rearrange sts onto 2 dpns with front of sock toe on 1 dpn and back of sock toe on the other dpn. (You will need to knit across 4 sts on back of sock toe in order for yarn to be at the left side of the 2nd dpn for grafting the toe.)

Use Kitchener Stitch to graft toe closed.
